Close Rikers Petitions to be delivered on Sunday. Join Us.

We took a stand on the side of love and justice: We joined over 3,500 people of faith and moral courage, and 550 faith leaders in our petition to New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio demanding that he close Rikers prison.

I’m delivering this petition alongside multi-faith leaders and organizers this Sunday, December 4. Here’s how you can join us:

If you’re in New York City, come to the prayer vigil at 3:30pm outside of Gracie mansion, Mayor de Blasio’s home. We’ll meet at Charles Shurz Park (East 87th St. & East End Ave.). Click here for details and to RSVP on Facebook.

If you’re outside of New York, join us via livestream on our Middle Collegiate Church Facebook page at 4pm EST. Make sure to comment and share as you watch so we can reach as many people as possible with our action to put more pressure on the Mayor.

We’ve provided some sample social media posts below so you can help us spread the word, and make sure you keep sharing the petition!

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, in-person and online.

In Revolutionary Love,

The Rev. Dr. Jacqui Lewis
Senior Minister, Middle Collegiate Church
