NARAL Pro-Choice Connecticut added a new video.
Listen to the Executive Director, Sarah Croucher, explain what crisis pregnancy centers are and more about our work in Hartford. To learn more visit exposecpcsct.org, and to take action in Hartford contact erica@prochoicect.org

“I believe that any person seeking reproductive health care should be able to do so without confusion, deception, or shame.”

An anti-choice group, St. Gerard’s Center for Life, recently moved into the same courtyard as Hartford GYN Center on the corner of Jefferson and Main Street in the South End of Hartford. Upon moving, St. Gerard’s Center for Life has renamed as “Hartford Women’s Center” and assigns staff and volunteers to actively confuse and intercept patients as they walk to appointments.
“Hartford Women’s Center” is one of about 30 crisis pregnancy centers (CPCs) in Connecticut. The mission of crisis pregnancy centers is to pressure people facing unplanned pregnancies to carry their pregnancies to term, no matter what. These anti-choice centers are unlicensed and unregulated by the state, and often use deceptive advertising and signage (i.e. “Pregnant? Scared? Need help?), delay tactics, shame, and medically inaccurate information about abortion and contraception to pressure people about their health care decisions. The deceptive practices of CPCs are a disruption in the community and a direct threat to time sensitive reproductive health care.

To sign the petition go to HERE.

Find out from NARAL what you can do. There will be hearings on the proposed ordinance coming up. If you are in the Hartford area plan to go to them if you can. If not sign the petition and support NARAL and groups in your area who fully support women and reproductive freedom. We at furbirdsqueerly know full well that the right when attacking women’s rights are also attacking us in the LGBTQ community. The same folks who are out protesting the GYN Center on Saturday have a long history of also protesting the LGBTQ community.

The IRS says, Robert Mercer, the big Trump Donor owes $7,000,000,000 in back taxes.

Here is a photo of the rich WHITE Privileged Criminal.

That’s $7 billion. The man owes $7 billion dollars. People here in NYC go to jail for not paying their subway fare. To call this white privilege is an understatement.

One reply this problem that we find interesting is this. I think the reply is forgetting the little fact that it is his Hedge Fund not anyone else. You want to see the very rich in action and what their money can do check out the legal team that he has.

…His hedge fund, Renaissance, owes it. The legal team it has assembled includes B. John Williams, a former IRS chief counsel and tax court judge; Fred Goldberg, a former IRS commissioner; and Diane Ryan, the former chief of the agency’s appeals unit! https://www.bloomberg.com/…/dispute-over-mercer-hedge…

Who is gonna win this? Who is going to be allowed a free ride?  Let’s us remember Madame Defarge and sit with her in all of this.

Windy City Times: Activist Ryne Poelker at Uptown Tent City Rally 9-18-2017

In from the Gay Liberation Network of Chicago.

Purge of Homeless People!

Despite his statements to the contrary, Alderman James Cappleman has led a multi-pronged, years long effort to drive homeless people, poorer people in general, and people of color out of the 46th Ward.

He has been a longtime opponent of working class people in the ward, prioritizing development for upper income “urban pioneers” (an appropriate term for would-be conquerors) while destroying homes and services for modest-income people who have long lived here.

His goal: Lincoln Park North, a trendy playground of boutiques and entertainment venues for whiter, richer, newly-arrived residents. Along the way, he’s enriching his developer friends / campaign contributors by doing their bidding.

His latest attack is the purposeful driving out of the people who inhabited Uptown’s Tent Cities, and the redesign of the Lake Shore Drive bridge viaducts with yuppie-pleasing bike paths on the sidewalks so as to intentionally keep homeless people away permanently. As if that was not enough, the purge of homeless people from the LSD viaducts has been accompanied by a new policy of preventing them from pitching tents ANYWHERE in the city.

In a city where homeless shelters are frequently full even in good weather, this a recipe for more injuries and perhaps deaths as the cold weather approaches. It is also a recipe guaranteed to increase trauma for people already in a highly stressful situation, as at least three homeless people suffered medical crisis during the series of evictions following the closure of the LSD viaducts.

You know we hadn’t had a Jerk Of All Times Award up until today when we saw this article:

Republican Blurts Out That Sick People Don’t Deserve Affordable Care

Some one should take this man to the woodshed. We are sure that many among us would think of some better things to do with this jerk but this being a nice respectable family blog we shant say it. Here he is folks, one fucking big asshole jerk for all times.

Republican Reprehensible  Mo Brooks of Alabama

and here is what the big jerk said:

Republicans usually defend their health-care position with an array of buzzwords like choice, patient-centric, or competition. In a CNN interview, Representative Mo Brooks, an Alabama Republican, makes the case for Trumpcare in much starker terms: It will free healthy people from having to pay the cost of the sick. “It will allow insurance companies to require people who have higher health care costs to contribute more to the insurance pool that helps offset all these costs, thereby reducing the cost to those people who lead good lives, they’re healthy, they’ve done the things to keep their bodies healt explained Brooks. “And right now, those are the people who have done things the right way that are seeing their costs skyrocketing.”

It is certainly true that the Republican health-care plan will spur insurance companies to charge more money to people with expensive medical needs, and less to healthier people. (It will also transfer hundreds of billions of dollars from the poor, who will get reduced Medicaid and tax credits to buy insurance, to the rich, who will receive a large tax cut.) The idea that morality dictates healthy people pay less, and sick people more, has been floating around the margins of conservative health-care thought. John Mackey, the libertarian owner of Whole Foods, made this case in a 2009 Wall Street Journal op-ed denouncing Obamacare:

Rather than increase government spending and control, we need to address the root causes of poor health. This begins with the realization that every American adult is responsible for his or her own health.

Unfortunately many of our health-care problems are self-inflicted: two-thirds of Americans are now overweight and one-third are obese. Most of the diseases that kill us and account for about 70% of all health-care spending—heart disease, cancer, stroke, diabetes and obesity—are mostly preventable through proper diet, exercise, not smoking, minimal alcohol consumption and other healthy lifestyle choices.

When Democratic Senator Tom Harkin in 2010 proposed that it was time to stop segregating Americans on the basis of health status, the conservative health-care analyst Jeffrey H. Anderson scoffed, “Having people pay their own way is apparently an injustice akin to segregating them by race or creed.”

Of course, you can’t pay your own way if you’re too poor or sick to afford your own projected medical costs. Indeed, sometimes people who are healthy at the moment find one day they are not, or they have a sick child, or maybe they simply want to have a baby. (The cost of bearing children is another one Republicans want to be borne entirely by those doing it.) The Republican plan expresses one of the core beliefs shared by movement conservatives, and utterly alien to people across the globe, right and left: that people who can’t afford the cost of their own medical care have nobody to blame but themselves.

Article from NY Magazine May 2017.

Notes:

  1. One thing for certain when enough people get sick and tired of folks like Mo Brooks there will be and heaven help them all such a just uprising and the big push them out of the way will happen. Mo Brooks many have your number and many more will we promise you. You know its a sad day when folks can not lend a hand to those who are down and out, to those who are sick and to those who need help. This is greed and if there is a god it is certain that this type of greed is purely wrong and shall be dealt with.
  2. Like other large employers, the government pays a large share of the cost of coverage. On average, the government pays 72 percent of the premiums for its workers, up to a maximum of 75 percent depending on the policy chosen. For example, the popular Blue Cross and Blue Shield standard fee-for-service family plan carries a total premium of $1,327.80 per month, of which the beneficiary pays $430.04. Washington, D.C.-based employees who prefer an HMO option might choose the Kaiser standard family plan. It carries a total premium of $825.15 per month, of which the employee pays only $206.29.
In addition, members of Congress also qualify for some medical benefits that ordinary federal workers do not. They (but not their families) are eligible to receive limited medical services from the Office of the Attending Physician of the U.S. Capitol, after payment of an annual fee ($491 in 2007). But services don’t include surgery, dental care or eyeglasses, and any prescriptions must be filled at the member’s expense.
House and Senate members (but not their families) also are eligible to receive care at military hospitals. For outpatient care, there is no charge at the Washington, D.C., area hospitals (Walter Reed Army Medical Center and National Naval Medical Center). Inpatient care is billed at rates set by the Department of Defense…Fact Check.Org. HERE.
  3. The Average Joe of Congress (there are 529 of them) gets paid $174,000 per year. But not everyone is average; the Speaker of the House gets $223,500 a year, while the majority and minority leaders of both the Senate and the House, along with the President Pro Tempore, get paid $193,400 per year…for more on this see HERE.

The ACLU says, “It defies logic to arm the police with weapons of war, but that’s precisely what President Trump and Attorney General Sessions have decided to do.” We know as others do that police departments all across amerikkka have been doing this for years. We have written many times about this and have asked for a complete list of what weapons Hartford police have stockpiled. The police are not our friends and know and know again if they have such weapons they will use them against the people. But the people strong and united will storm the storage houses and confiscate these weapons.

and remember this: Cops are just one component of the bourgeoisie’s repressive apparatus for subjugating the working class and anyone else that strays from the bourgeoisie norm. If they can’t subjugate us they will kill us.

In from Radical Women and Freedom Socialist Party

When arch conservative Anita Bryant crusaded against gay rights in the 1970s, the queer community fought back. Not every battle was won, but the stage was set across the U.S. for increasing rights.

When Ronald Reagan maintained a deadly silence in the early 1980s as the AIDS/HIV crisis escalated, with his fascist-loving communications director, Pat Buchanan, calling AIDS “nature’s revenge on gay men,” the LGBTQ community Acted Up.

When white supremacists with an ugly homophobic, multi-issue agenda declared their intention to turn the Northwest into an Aryan Homeland, also in the Reagan/Bush years, leaders in the Seattle lesbian and gay community became key to the success of the United Front Against Fascism, alongside Black, feminist, socialist, and union activists. Together they mobilized a movement that met the skinheads and KKK wherever they gathered publicly.

Now the hard right is once again in the White House and on the streets of our country.

Time to make radical alliances with the right’s intended victims

Queer history is one of being in the forefront against the turn-back-the-clockers — in our own defense and in defense of every group they target. We have a heritage to flaunt and live up to!

As in the past, now is the time to make common cause with our natural allies — victims of police terror and racial bigotry, immigrants, Muslims, Jews, women who face the prospect of losing their reproductive rights, unions under attack by the “right to work” Freedom Foundation — in short, working people of many colors and descriptions. Fighting together and defending each other, we are strong; separated, we are easy prey for corporate CEOs and their stormtroopers whose final goal is to save the profit system by reducing the working class to zombie wage slaves.

Today the country needs an outpouring of many radical united fronts that live by the slogan “An injury to one is an injury to all!”

Total liberation, nothing less!

LGBTQ people have resisted oppression at least since the witch hunts of the 15th century. We are not about to have our lavender lives suffocated now! Everything won with blood, sweat and sacrifice over the past 50 years is on the line.

To keep advancing, we will stand up for ourselves and for the workers making unlivable wages and for the immigrants maligned, harassed and deported — who are also us! We will stand up for all our sister and brother “outsiders.” We will rely on our own ability, not politicians, to mobilize the forces to fight for justice and freedom for all. We will be a battalion in the army of the oppressed, confident in the knowledge that the future belongs to the multi-hued international working class. We will not be pushed back into the closet. Instead, we will finish the revolution for human liberation we started.
